Chippendale silver cutlery
Thomas Chippendale was one of the first craftsmen to popularize the Rococo style of the Sun King Louis XIV – today a timeless and popular classic.
Eating was considered an act of state, many courts and especially Versailles had amassed considerable treasures of silver tableware, the most expensive dishes were enjoyed on silver tableware – and of course the nobility competed with each other for the most ostentatious silver, many a prince is said to have turned pale from the splendor of his host’s silver service and silver cutlery at a banquet.
A special status symbol was the silver buffet, a symbol of the high quality of the silversmith’s art, a multi-tiered etagere on which the finest silver objects were perfectly displayed: Silver cups, silver place plates, candlesticks and much more.
Our Chippendale silver cutlery is characterized by its flowing shape and graceful lines. The decorative thread along the edge emphasizes the elegantly curved contours and underlines the characteristic profile.
Chippendale now has the status of a design icon.
