Phoenix aus der Asche

Like a phoenix from the ashes – Möhrle Silber Germany after the company fire

We, the team at Möhrle Silber Germany, always remember that day of disaster on May 7, exactly ten years ago. A large part of our company building was destroyed, the shock was enormous and so many questions were asked at the same time….

But luckily for us, nobody was injured and just six months later we were able to start rebuilding and today we are delighted with the successful comeback of our silver manufactory.

The following article from the Schwäbisch Gmünd Volunteer Fire Brigade’s information sheet, no. 51 June 2013, shows the scale of the fire disaster:

Firmenbrand 2013 Möhrle Silber Germany

Fire Haußmannstraße/ Goethestraße Möhrle company

At 2.12 p.m. on 07.05.2013, the Gmünd fire brigade was alerted to a building fire in Haußmannstraße. During flexing work in the workshop on the second floor, a deflagration with an open fire and heavy smoke development occurred. There were four people in the building at the time the fire broke out, but they were all able to get themselves to safety in time.

Based on the initial feedback from the emergency services on site, a full alarm was sounded. The fire was tackled on a massive scale using the turntable ladder both inside and outside. Due to the heavy smoke development, most of the work was only possible with heavy breathing protection. The Wetzgau department was alerted to support the city center department with additional breathing apparatus wearers. The Straßdorf department was alerted to maintain fire protection in the city center in order to man the Florian. Once again, the interdepartmental cooperation between the departments, which has long been promoted and practiced by Commander Schamberger, proved its worth.

A short time later, the fire was under control and the lengthy extinguishing work began. Numerous embers were extinguished by the firefighters. Due to the Möhrle company’s valuables in the building, a security service was on site all night to secure the building. During the night, the fire department checked the building again. However, no embers or other indications of the fire flaring up again were found.
